The Woman in Cabin 10 Film
This Agatha Christie-esque mystery stars the talented actress in the role of Laura, a top-notch writer who opts for a break from reporting on world issues to board a high-end voyage with a gravely sick Scandinavian billionaire and charitable figure, her husband, plus additional affluent individuals. Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills in this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the viewpoint of a ghost. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe settles into their fresh home, the filming device – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. Chloe seems aware of the poltergeist, and it looks like defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, including a revelation that could catch you off guard. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Cage embraces his unique fame through this autobiographical spoof. He acts as a narcissistic celebrity playing himself who accepts a million-dollar gig to appear at a celebration in Mallorca for the rich Javi Gutierrez. Contacted by government spies to investigate the alleged criminal, the actor's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” comes in handy. This Saturday, prime time, on Channel 4
The Black Phone Horror
The director's contained scarefest stands strong without requiring a continuation. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, a series of child abductions has left the children frightened. After Finney is taken by the villain and imprisoned in a basement, he anticipates a terrible outcome. Yet the disconnected phone on the wall keeps ringing, with spooky callers giving advice, and the prescient dreams of Gwen, his sister could save him. A solid creepfest. This Saturday, 10.50pm, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top true story of the disgraced TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. The couple commence monetising the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and insincerity, though the lead actress succeeds to present the character as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
