PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
