Two Detentions Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

The assault resulted in the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals have been arrested in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are still being held, the force said.

The arrests follow a probe into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their suitcases upon exiting a car park lift.

A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. Five people went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

Officers detained a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault near the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of several people injured by a noxious substance thought to be pepper spray.

The attack - an event that authorities stated was isolated and not considered terrorism - resulted in train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
